| Contents | on the Erich Becher succession in philosophy, University of Munich; there were moves to invite Ernst Cassirer, but the Bavarian government has appointed [Richard] Hoenigswald; in the university of Hamburg Ernst Cassirer will be appointed Vice Chancellor, Sudek and R. Laun deans and possibly Panofsky; what is Warburg's view on a possible appointment of Panofsky?; Saxl spoke with Cassirer, it would be the greatest opportunity for Hamburg to have Cassirer for a year as Vice Chancellor; the university has 3500 students, the question of a university centre in Borstel needs to be settled, which could be built by [Fritz] Schumacher; it is very good timing that Warburg will be back in Hamburg soon; Cassirer could lay the foundation stone for an integrated university in Hamburg in which KBW will have its place; Panofsky wants a departmental library, but it would cost a quarter of a million Mark; it is conceivable, however, that instead the state builds a large new building in Borstel and leases it to KBW which would put KBW into the centre of intellectual life; A. Farinelli has arrived in Hamburg, Saxl met him at the station and will dine with him in the evening; informs him that hundreds of photographs from Paris have arrived, Ovide moralisé with many images; he also received photographs from Arsénal, Albricus figures, sibyls, 'spindle of necessity', kabbalah dedicated to the French king; acknowledges receipt of photographs of Verona [San Zeno] which he has not ordered; thinks Warburg has ordered them and forwards them to Warburg; forwards a letter by Edmund Wilhelm Braun, Troppau, an expert in the German Renaissance |
