Contentshe would have replied earlier but he made a trip to Ahrtal [Ahr is a tributary of the Rhine, South of Remagen] with Paul Ruben, [Hans] Nirrnheim, [Hans] Nippen and a scientist called Söhnen; Nippen and Söhnen are from the Rhineland, clever and charming; Paul Ruben hopes to enlarge their 'circle'; Warburg finds Ruben very congenial apart from his 'eccentric religious views'; he is looking forward to the first lecture by Neuhaeuser; finds the 20 fellow diners in the [kosher] restaurant [Rothschild] unbearable; five of some are just about possible, the rest are a 'model collection of Jewish bad manners'; they speak Yiddish; food is adequate, but the wine is undrinkable; Mrs. Rothschild is a decent woman; the student body at Bonn university seems decent, antisemitism does not seem to be more prevalent than anywhere else among young people; he cannot see any problems arising; he wanted to ask Dr. [Gustav] Heilbut for a recommendation for Professor J.B. Meyer, but does not want to do so any longer; two students from the student fraternity 'Saxonia' wanted to rope in Warburg, but heavy-heartedly he had to decline; would like to have coffee sent to him from Hamburg as well as his racket and walking stick
