Contentsacknowledges receipt of her letter; he is getting better, even if he has headaches and muscular pains from time to time; he is as depressed as she is with the news of the high mortality figures; has she caught the flu?; finds the winter terrible, he can only endure the lonely hours by reading novels and stories, he cannot work as yet; is sorry that [Siegfried?] Aschkenasy has died; it must have been upsetting for aunt Théophilie [Warburg]; is looking forward to travelling to Hamburg in six weeks; he is ashamed confessing that he is looking forward to going home, the lectures are boring, he is missing friends and a certain level of comfortable living; he will be 24 years soon and feels still a child; he wished it were different, if only he had to chop wood!; sends greetings to everybody and thanks especially Franziska for her letter
