Contents | hastens to write him a letter as he has already complained that he has not heard more from Berlin; she enjoyed her stay; the blond Melchior accompanied them in Berlin and Olga enjoyed his company; they had to change in Wittenberg because the axles of the train had overheated; upon their return Paul and his siblings were well; Fritz got a good report in school, he is the third best pupil in his form; Ise [Louise Warburg] is also cheerful although her report is not as good; both will go to the theatre the next day, a Christmas fairy tale called 'Glasmännchen'; corrects an error in Felix's letter: the Warburg family did receive an inquiry from London whether Max could stay on a few months as they like him and he could learn more; Paul was also prepared to stay and to go to New York in May instead of to Petersburg; but in the meantime Max sent a cable that he wants to return and so Moritz Warburg replied to the initial inquiry in the negative; Paul carries on with his Russian studies and only waits for Max to return so that he can leave for Petersburg; would Warburg want to spend the Christmas holidays in Karlsruhe or in Frankfurt?; Felix will be in Amsterdam; she has no news about the 'bust of the Florentine lady' [Verrocchio]; Warburg's friend Ernst Burmeister promised to purchase it; coments how stiff Burmeister is and how polished Max J. Friedländer is; sends congratulations on Hubert Janitschek's call [to Leipzig university]; Olga and Paul have received a number of invitations, Olga's friend Alice [Hallgarten?] is back in Hamburg; the [Ascan] Lutteroth painting has been framed and hung above the sofa; it is rather too small than too large; everybody sends greetings;Moritz Warburg signs and wishes happy Chanuka |
