Contents | thanks him for a letter; agrees that Warburg should have been sent a cable with the news of Rosa Warburg's engagement; hopes that Warburg has congratulated aunt Théophilie [Warburg] in the meantime; weddings in the family are always difficult, but no mother would have had the right to be against this match; both love each other very much; calls Sascha [Alexander von Günzburg] 'a fine chap'; he does not know when the wedding will be and therefore whether Warburg will have a reason for staying away; if Warburg is in the middle of his PhD nobody will request his attendance; thanks him for having written to [Adolf] Dorner;Dorner received many letters of congratulation from friends and stock exchange colleagues; on 01/02/1891 there was a little celebration in the office, Dorner and his wife and children were invited into Moritz Warburg's private office; Moritz gave a speech, based on a quote by Jago in 'Othello', 3rd act, 3rd scene, 'he that filches from me my good name / robs me of that which not enriches him / and makes me poor indeed'; Moritz stressed that Dorner always held high the name of M. M. Warburg & Co; Dorner and the other employees were very touched; they drank 11 bottles of champaign; cake was served; mentions how the old servant [Richard] Hamann enjoyed drinking champaign; Moritz had cut out the 'Othello' quote and carried it in his notebook for thirty years because it had always been important to him 'to keep the name unblemished' |
