Contentsthanks for letter; he has not heard from his father yet but has withdrawn money from the account [in Karlsruhe]; he would like to receive a letter from Max and not just about dinners or engagements; he accepts that Dr. Saenger wants to receive a copy of Warburg's PhD; but Saenger does not understand anything about it; Warburg has received his diploma; Warburg attended a dinner party at Grumbachers, a musical evening; he nearly fell asleep during a longish piece by Handel; on an exercise with guns, when his battery left barrracks to drive to the firing range out of town; supplies a sketch of the gun; the role of the Volunteers is to load and fire; on the way home they stopped for drinks and waved at passers-by in Kaiserstrasse; at the end of February the new recruits have to pass an exam; orders shirts, writing paper; grandmother wrote to Warburg that he should visit Mrs. Recha Pappenheim, who is staying with Homburgers; promises to do so, but is not happy being kidnapped by the whole family [uses the Hebrew word 'Mischpoche']; he does not yet think of marriage; he suspects that they want him to meet a niece, a country bumpkin with a hunchback, who the family wants to marry off; Rosenbergs also do not mix with them
