Contents | remarks jokingly that he managed to extricate himself from marrying Miss Bartels in Hanover, Commercienrat [Wilhelm A.] Riedemann, who owns the large petrol business in Hamburg-Bremen, introduced him to his 45 years old sister Liese and jokingly suggested that Paul Warburg could marry her; she is a nice woman, Riedemann a common captain; other people from Hamburg [in Bad Kissingen] are Dr. Brackenhoeft and family, Professor Berlin, John Perlebach, Heitmann; Rudolf Goldenberg with his wife and daughter stay in Villa Singer, also Dr. Scharlach, Henry Loeb; Iwan Gans had to leave to attend the funeral of his brother Jacob; mentions Director Peter, of Nationalbank Berlin, and wife, Director Towin from Petersburg; other guests are less distinguished, fat Bavarians, traditionally dressed Polish rabbis, many Russians and Americans; also the famous Astor and Rockefeller, the Duke of Coburg, Herr von Hölzke with family, some singers and actors, Possart, many women, but they are ugly; he has seen Saulmanns, Miss Bonn sends greetings; his room is very pretty, opens on to the garden, with a balcony; mentions Gretchen [Dessoff?] who remembers Moritz Warburg; the daily routine consists of drinking the mineral water, walking, eating; Loeb told him that Ella [Goldschmidt] and [Ludwig] Nauen had got engaged; orders cigars to be sent to him |
