Contentshe enjoyed his state in the capital of New Mexico, Santa Fé; the next day he will leave for Albuquerque and Fort Wingate; the previous day it was the first time that he saw an [American] Indian village, San Juan, near Espanola, where Mr. Eldodt, from Westphalia, is post trader; he has a collection of Pueblo Indian objects; Warburg had the 'triumph' to talk with a Pueblo Indian from San Juan, in a mixture of Italian and Spanish, about religious painting; the Indian pretended to be stupid, but became interested and explained to Warburg ornaments which Warburg had not been able to explain; he finds travelling on the dirty and overheated narrow-gauge railway very exhausting; Santa Fé made a strange impression on him; the majority of people are 'dirty Mexicans', living in adobe houses; Warburg met all the big men in town, antique dealers, jeweller, drug store keeper, doctor, the people at the weather centre; unfortunately Governor [L. Bradford] Prince is not in town; thanks them for their letters, but has not received the letters from his parents and Miss [Mary] Hertz; he does not yet know where he will spend Christmas, Fort Wingate, Phoenix, San Francisco; acknowledges receipt of blue jacket; asks them to forward the letter to his family in Europe
