Contentsthey cannot judge his reasons why he wants to go to Japan and can therefore only support his plans; they had a letter from Max who arrived safely in Cape Town; there was a large explosion in Johannesburg, which destroyed a large part of town; James Loeb has arrived in Hamburg and stays with his sister Nina in Fontenay; he will travel to Berlin and Frankfurt, return briefly to Hamburg and then continue on his travel to Greece; on 10/03/1896 there will be a party in the Warburg house and James will play the Cello; finds his behaviour 'a bit soft', but very charming; Otto Kahn and his wife [Wolff] visited the Warburg family, she is spoilt and he is disagreeable; Louise invited her classmates, 25 girls, they played music and danced; Olga Robinow has got engaged to Arthur Goldschmidt; Arthur Goldschmidt is the brother of Willy Goldschmidt, solicitor, who ran away; the grandfather was the Hazzan [or Chazzan], the Cantor in Altona synagogue; Arthur Goldschmidt works in a business called Luria; Charlotte does not approve of the match; reminds him of Purim the next day; Panina [Paul and Nina Warburg] and [von der] Portens will come to visit them in the evening; Mary Hertz is 'enchanted' by Nina; sends greetings from Moritz, Olli [Olga Warburg], Fritz, Ise [Louise Warburg] and Franziska [Jahns]
