Contentsreports on his trip to the Grand Canyon; travelling companions were General [William J.] Palmer plus family and Dr. [William A.] Bell, his wife and daughter, from Colorado Springs, a German, Dr. Oppenheim from Berlin, and his American wife; the party comprised twelve people; they left on 01/04/1896, Palmers and Bells, nine people, in a carriage for six people, Oppenheim and his wife and Warburg in a buggy, drawn by two horses; it was very cold, they had to change horses 3 times in 14 hours; they left at 7am and arrived at 9 pm; their 'hotel' consisted of a one room timber house, the size of the dining room in Mittelweg; the landlord, an old miner John Hance, had prepared two beds in the room, two camping beds in a tent and accommodation in a half built log cabin without any furniture at all half an hour away; cooking was done in the timber house; Warburg will send them photographs; Oppenheims and Warburg were given beds in the timber house; Mrs. Oppenheim was given Navajo blankets with which the room was divided into two and was given one bed; Mr. Oppenheim and Warburg diced for the second bed and Warburg won; Mr. Oppenheim slept on the table; the Palmer and Bell party, two men and seven women, camped out in the half-built house; the landscape is wonderful; on 03/04/1896 they returned and on 04/04/1896 Palmer and Warburg went on a day trip to Cliff Dwellings where he totally ruined his elegant boots, made by Frehse [in Hamburg]; forwards a book about Grand Canyon; on 08/04/1896 he will travel to the Zuni; he has no inclination to write letters and asks Felix to forward his letter to Europe, which originally has been addressed to L. [Philipp N. Lilienthal]
