Contents | the decision to congratulate Moritz Warburg on the engagement of his eldest son was a difficult one; but his congratulations are sincere; remembers the days when he visited the Warburg family and heard their prayers in Hebrew; in the meantime he has discovered his own 'Jewish heart'; yet everybody is different and the worth of the individual well-being of those near and dear is more important than religion, race and 'our social ideas'; Arons said so to Warburg, when he told him of the engagement, and said as well that the blessings of his parents would follow; and that is the reason why he has decided also to congratulate the parents; [additional sheet apparently in Aby Warburg's hand, summarizing a conversation Paul Warburg had, n.d., not addressed:] 'the engagement is contrary to the conviction and principles of my father; but father did not want to stop the marriage of my brother because he really values Miss Hertz, because both of them have known each other for eight years and have realized that they belong to each other' |
