ContentsMarcus understands the situation in which the Warburg family find themselves, strictly raised in and adhering to the tenets of their religion; but the happiness of one's children is higher than religion; repeats Charlotte's characterisation of Mary, a 'noble, pure, ideal' woman, an artist who will make Warburg happy; the fact that Warburg knew Mary Hertz for eight years shows that he respected his family; who would want to stop such harmony for the sake of religion?; it is the highest task of Judaism and Christianity to purify the soul; to stop the love one person has for the other would be contrary to the tenets of religion; counsels patience, time will heal and show them that their children are happy; congratulates Charlotte and Moritz Warburg; Louise thanks Charlotte for informing them of the engagement before the official publication; Marcus and Louise can understand Warburg's choice very well, although they themselves remain faithful to Judaism; she therefore agrees with everything her husband has written and congratulates them; is sure that they will be happy with their son getting married and not remaining single, as is the case with [her brother] Max [Goldschmidt]
