Contentsapologizes for late congratulations, hopes that Mary is not cross with her cousin Maggie; congratulates her on the birth of Marietta; Maggie has rarely seen her own mother happier, Mary did her a great favour by having a daughter; Maggie and her sister Ellen have only boys, so that everybody was happy with a girl; Maggie has taken up sculpting, as her painting teacher [Th.] Herbst has left them and plans to visit [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] in Florence; Mr. Haas modelled Margarethe [her daughter], the sculpture was a christmas present of the parents-in-law; Maggie then took up sculpting and enjoys 'kneading'; Maggie asked Lichtwark's advice whether Haas was a good teacher and Lichtwark's answer was no, but there was nobody else except Mary Warburg who could teach sculpture in Hamburg; mentions Betty; Maggie's daughter Margarethe is fine, she is four years of age; mentions [her husband] Albrecht [O'Swald]; advises Mary to read the second volume of 'Journal de Marie Bashkirtseff', a painter and mistress of [the painter] [Jules] Bastien-Lepage; Maggie is reading 'Niels Lyhne' by [Jens Peter] Jacobsen
