Contents | reminds him of their agreement, to send each other letters at the beginning and the middle of each month; he does not want a picture postcard if Warburg has nothing to report; Panina's [Paul and Nina Warburg's] reports of Aby and Mary Warburg were very good; has little hope that Paul's treatment by Dr. Binswanger [Otto Binswanger?] will be successful; it is no solution for Paul to travel constantly between Hamburg and New York; Paul suffers from having too many worries; Max sees only one solution for Panina [Paul and Nina Warburg]: to settle in New York; Kuhn Loeb need an efficient banker after the death of Mr. [A.] Wolff; Panina [Paul and Nina Warburg] will sail on 04/04/1901 in order to clarify whether Paul could fill the vacancy; Nina's parents are old and ill, so that it will be better for her to move to New York; a move to New York would make Nina happy, would therefore make Paul happy and would be an opportunity for M. M. Warburg & Co to intensify their links with the US; the only condition Max has made is that Paul Warburg does not leave M. M. Warburg & Co; Paul will return to Hamburg if Kuhn Loeb do not accept this condition; it is a pity that Paul might leave when he is starting his work in the city of Hamburg, but this is no reason to keep him in Hamburg; Morti [Mortimer Schiff]'s bride seems to be a nice woman; John [Johann Nicolaus Hertz] has no reason to complain about Schliemann; John needs to be more diplomatic; John treated the inventor, von Boyen, badly; John needs to be not only diligent, but also practical; Max is convinced that the factory will get off the ground; is pleased that Warburg is working well; advises him to write directly to Werner von Melle re lecture engagement; is pleased that [Heinrich] Brockhaus seems to have 'woken up'; Warburg is right with his view of their parents; to have one's good humor destroyed by the people around one is something which these people do not deserve; Alice's painting of Sander is very good; 'Der Lotse' is getting worse, Carl Mönckeberg's style is simply unacceptable; the state should pay for exporting bad editors; Heckscher and Mönckeberg should be made to leave |
