| Contents | he visited Mrs. [Jessie] Hillebrand, accompanied by [Jacques] Dwelshauvers; en route they met [Alceste] Giorgetti with his little son Giorgino who remembers 'Mariettina' [=Marietta]; Mrs. Hillebrand was 'humanity personified', but very deaf; he has made the decision to stop travelling; 'our picture' is on her table and she sends greetings to Mary; Warburg met Miss Chickabiddy on the stairs; Warburg visited [Heinrich and Else] Brockhaus and found them changed; both seem freer; [Heinrich] Brockhaus complained bitterly about Pastor [Eugen] Lessing; Warburg also met [Georg] Gronau and wife, [Franz] Wickhoff; he will meet [Giovanni] Poggi, [Gustaf .F.] Steffen and wife [Oscara Steffen], [Adolf] Hildebrand and wife [Irene]; the Jolles house, on the outskirts of town, is still very cold, but the garden is wonderful; Warburg likes talking to André Jolles; Warburg does not know whether he will get any work done; describes the scenes in the street earlier on in the day, Sunday, with many carriages, fat men and women, pasty-faced, many Nannies, music, soldiers; Warburg called at Halm's, their daughter is sweet, Mrs. Halm is pregnant, calls it 'in corso di stampa'; [Emil and his wife] Schaeffer will visit Le Palazzine; Mr. [Artur] and Mrs. [M./Grete?] Weese will lunch with Warburg at Brockhaus's next day; Warburg has not yet been to his own apartment, is somehow hesitant to set foot in it |
