Contentsunderstands from her letter that [Jan] Veth criticized Warburg, that Max [Warburg] thinks Warburg's blood is too thick and that Max does not understand Warburg's work; it is true, Warburg has a paunch, but he can only work in absolute peace and quiet and not whilst moving about; he can do his best when he experiences the minimum of friction; it is simply boring to say that Warburg should work in a more disciplined way; is annoyed that Max advised him to work in the archive in Bruges; Warburg could not do so, he would be overwhelmed by the material; he cannot visit the exhibition, which was opened on 15/06/1902, because of his hayfever; he does no longer tolerate anybody to judge him as he is careful when judging other people; nobody knows how much he suffers when he hears 'systematic' and 'methodical'; he needed to finish his research, is he not allowed to do so?; the Flanders research came to an abrupt and premature end, its homogeneity suffered; the world of the Warburg bank and his research work must not infringe on each other; in his innermost self he is a poet, did Mary know this?; the previous evening he went sailing with Miss [Mila?] Brock and Dr. Baerwald and a friend from Hanover, related to Mila Brock; he has already taken sea baths
