Contentsshe simply could not write any earlier; she has to confess that she is very pleased that a decision has been taken and that they have settled in New York; mentions the New Year's eve party in the house of Warburg's parents; both Nina and Mary will wish the same for the future, to be able to bear difficulties without rancour; she is very sad that the centre of her life, her mother, has died; the house is still not finished; Paul [Warburg] and the children are well; Mr. and Mrs. Philipp Schiff will have told [Aby and Mary Warburg] about Paul and Nina Warburg; Jimmy [James Paul Warburg] resembles more and more his father; is pleased to read that Mary and her son are very well; requests a photograph of Max Adolph; is pleased that Liese's [Louise Derenberg] delivery went well; it is a pity that Alice [Warburg] is still suffering from sleeplessness; Nina has not made any visits or received visitors, she only deals with builders; her doctor told her not to overdo it, her nerves are bad; she often meets Frieda, and Bubi [James Paul Warburg] has gymnastic lessons with Carola and Frederick [Warburg] and other children; is pleased that her Bubi [James Paul Warburg] is still at home and 'stupid' and will not start school for another year; Guta [Seligman] has employed a Nurse for the Nanny of Margaret, because Margaret is ill; Guta is not very well, but Nina's father is very well; Jim's [James Loeb] house in Shrewsbury has been finished, it is beautiful; Jim works in town from Wednesdays to Saturdays and is in his house the rest of the week, working on his book; how is Warburg?; she is very happy that John [Johann Nicolaus Hertz] had a son [Walther], sends greetings to Mary's mother; Bettina's midwife [in Hamburg], Auguste, has written that Lene [Magdalene Hertz, wife of Johann Nicolaus] was very well; when is Wilhelm's [Hertz] baby due?; she had a letter from Mrs. Dr. Behn [wife of Hermann Behn?]; Nina wonders whether she will ever become a 'human being' again; Paul is such a patient man, Nina often regrets that Paul has not married Mary; she also thinks that her brother Jim [James Loeb] would be very happy with marrying Mary's [fictitious] twin sister
