Contentsthanks him for letter of 18/11/1921; regrets but cannot visit him due to work pressure; is very happy that Max Warburg has been awarded an honorary doctorate, he saw the note with a picture in 'Hamburger Fremdenblatt'; mentions the silly event on the occasion of the appointment of the new Rektor; a student has taken down the new flag for the German Reich as he viewed it as 'provocation'; afterwards he apologised to Senator Petersen, but retracted his signature later on; he was sent down, which only deepened the antagonism of the student body; he does not notice antisemitic activities, only the hatred by Nationalists of Jews; his son Hans lives in Heidelberg, Zähringerstrasse 14, c/o Bayer; he enjoys his first semester; Hertz thinks it a pity that Hans will not be able to serve in the army; his son is not interested in the student fraternities; Carl Braband, Percy [Ernst] Schramm are in Heidelberg, also the son of Professor Heinrich Sieveking from Zurich; he has chosen to read Law; hopes that his son can finish his degree; one has to hope, that is all that is left in these dismal times, but one day the circumstances in Germany will change; he does not see Mary Warburg often, but her family and his family are well; sends greetings from his wife Hanna [Johanna Hertz] and the two daughters, one of whom is Eva Hertz
