Contentsthanks him for a copy of Warburg's Luther book; he had no idea that men like Ph. Melanchthon were under the spell of astrology; but even nowadays one has to realize that superstitious beliefs cannot be wholly eradicated; mentions as example that people still do not have their hair cut at new moon or do not travel or do move house on Fridays; remembers when Warburg talked to him about astrological engravings some 20 years ago; he has bought a large telescope to continue with his astronomical studies; refers to a constellation in the spring when Saturn was next to Jupiter, Mars, Venus and the moon; Warburg can well imagine how Gauricus might have interpreted this particular constellation; he is reading a book by [Guglielmo] Ferrero, 'Größe und Niedergang Roms' and likes it very much; finds many parallels to contemporary German history; his own family is well, they have moved from their town apartment to the country house and enjoy the peace and quiet there; in order to avoid having strangers billeted in their house they have decided to share their house with Dora, her husband and the two children; Warburg's niece Lola Warburg visited them with her fiançé Rudo Hahn [Rudolf Hahn], son of Lotte Hahn; compliments Lola on getting such a lovely husband; Springer's own family has retired from 'foolish' parties and society, preferring to meet only friends; he and his wife Emma are fine, enjoy their children and grandchildren; wishes Warburg speedy recovery
