| Contents | thanks her for card; is sorry that she was lumbered with designing the programme [of the performance] as well; Miss [Wilhelmine] Niels should help her; he enjoys Grindelwald, he was walking on the glacier, he was sleigh riding; people play 'curling', a sort of 'bocia on ice'; he went skating with Malice [Max and Alice Warburg] and tried his hand curling, directed by Mr. Boss; finds Boss a wonderful man, a counterpart - in the world of pubs - to Jacob Burckhardt; Boss sends greetings to [family] O'Swald Max is grateful to Albrecht O'Swald for having recommended the chalet; is undecided whether to return to Hamburg for the performance or whether he should wait for Mary to join him in Basle or in Geneva; he wants to look at the paintings by Conrad Witz und the tapestry in the Chateau de Ripaille; plans to start on his lecture in the university in April; all she would have to take along for him would be the Zettelkästen; thanks her for letter; Malice [Max and Alice Warburg] liked Milly Becker [Bianca Emilie Rohland-Becker] very much; Warburg is happy that Mary is involved with the performance and that she can concentrate on her work in his absence; is annoyed, however, that she cannot learn to concentrate on the big issues; she always is wasting time on trivia; she has to understand that it is her duty 'to free him from himself'; in the winter she did not look after him sufficiently; it may have been that she lacks enough good will or that his hypochondria has become too big; has [Heinrich?] Embden seen André Jolles?; calls her involvement with the [charity] performance a 'symptom' of their relationship, not its cause |
