| Contents | the previous evening he spent with [Gustaf F.] Steffen at Kösterberg; with Max [Warburg] were 'fat Irene' and husband Holtzendorff, Mrs. Pontoppidan and son, Mr. and Mrs. Duncker and others; he enjoyed the company, Steffen was a bit slow, but as sound as ever; Warburg attended the meeting for '[Hamburgische?] Monatsschrift' in the afternoon; Warburg was elected to become a member of the board together with [A.?] Krüss, [H.] Spiero, [Ernst?] Maass, [E.] Marcks, [Karl] Rathgen, [B.] Nocht, [Eduard] Zacharias, [Gustav] Schiefler, [Alfred] Lichtwark; 24 people attended, [Werner] von Melle chaired the meeting; the discussion was interesting; Warburg countered Spiero, who wanted the new 'Monatsschrift' to be like 'Deutsche Rundschau' by saying that a 'purification plant for saturated culture free of bacteria' was not called for; Warburg organised a dinner party in honour of Steffen and invited [Wilhelm Ludwig] Lehmann, [K.] Rathgen, [G.] Schiefler, Heinrich Embden, Wilhelm [Hertz?]; is very happy with Mary's letter from Fanö and is pleased that the children are so cheerful; sends greetings from [Gustaf F.] and Oscara Steffen |
