Contents | Gelett Burgess has asked him to forward some account of the founding of 'The Chap-Book'; the enterprise arose from Carman's suggestion to Herbert Stone in the early spring of 1894; the first issue appeared in May 1894; Stone and Kimball were young graduates of Harvard College and were starting a publishing business; in April 1894 Carman went to Boston to act as reader for the firm Stone and Kimball and between the three of them they 'evolved 'the 'Chap-Book'; the name and make-up of the magazine are due to Stone; the business moved from Boston to Chicago in August 1894 and from then onwards Carman no longer edited it; he is still writing for the periodical from time to time |
